Depending on the activity, relevant QI institutions such as National Standards Bodies (NSB), National Accreditation Bodies (NAB), National Metrology Institutes (NMI), certification bodies, testing laboratories or calibration laboratories (CAB) or stakeholders from the economic sector, the public sector and/or civil society will be included.
Need for transnational action
All persons, institutions and countries worldwide are urged to respond to the economic, health and social challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mutual learning, support and sharing of innovative approaches are crucial to tackle these new challenges. A joint, agile and responsive approach enables WB6 QI institutions to better adapt to the new challenge.
Objective
QI institutions in the Western Balkan countries proactively tackle Covid-19 challenges related to QI.
Project implementation
- Component 0: Project team members steer and coordinate WB6 COVID-19 related QI activitiese.g. by regular project meetings, public relations and a kick-off e-conference with the private sector on QI response to Covid-19-related challenges for the economy.
- Component 1: QI institutions mitigate economic consequences of COVID-19,e.g. by supporting the introduction of business continuity management and other relevant standards on risk management or innovation management in WB6 countries.
- Component 2: QI institutions offer improved health-related services, e.g. by capacity building on the implementation of mutually recognised tests for COVID-19 and support in the translation of COVID-19 related standards.
- Component 3: QI institutions build up capacities for remote work and cooperation, e.g. by increasing QI institutions' (staff's) skills for virtual work and collaboration.
Expected impact
COVID-19 endangers the health of citizens, the economic situation in all WB6 (and other) countries and has an impact on free movement of goods between countries. QI institutions either have a role in fighting the virus (e.g. metrology for measuring instruments used in hospitals, market surveillance of imported personal protective equipment, or providing relevant standards) or simply need to adapt their working methods (e.g. adapted work flows, remote audits or assessments or virtual meetings) to be able to continue offering their QI services.
